Miss Maude Royden returned home from her world tour in January. She has had some amusing experiences in the East. At a Moslem mosque she conformed to custom and took off her siloes. Seeing a pair of sandals, which she concluded were for the use ot visitors, she put them on. The alarm of the bystanders made her aware that she was appropriating the sandals of a Moslem at his devotions inside! Hurriedly discarding them, she walked cheerfully in her stockings over the wonderfully clean floor. At a dinner in Shanghai, Miss Royden had what she described as a “truly wonderful experience.” But it was’ pleasurable. Hhe found almost every item “delicious,” including bird’s nest soup, shark’s fins and frog’s legs. She marvelled that the Chinese ladies retain such slim, elegant figures.
