TIMARU CLUB! THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the Timaru Goif Club was held last/ evening, the president (Mr W. Thomas), presiding over an attendance of about fifty members. On moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet (which has already appeared in the “Herald”) the president said that the report was, to a great extent, self-explanatory. One aspect lor which members must feel deeply gratetul, was the work done by the ground committee. The committee, Messrs T. Scott, A. L. Marshall and A. G. Horwell, had done a vast amount of work in the past two years. With Mr Scott as leader, the committee had done work that nad saved the Club the exfiense of another groundsman With regard to finance, Mr Thomas said the Club was down about £9O on the year’s working. This could be attributed to the fact that wages had gone up about £SO, and the proiessional tournament had resulted in a loss of about £2O. In connection with this aspect, Mr Thomas was of opinion that the Club asked the committee to w'ork on too little money. If they expected the links to be brought up to the standard they desired, then by some means, they must give the committee more money to work on. They had embarked on an ambitious scheme, and, as a Club, thev should give the committee a better chance. A committee, consisting of Messrs W. T. Ritchie and It. Wilson, had gone into th© question very carefully, and had three schemes prepared for submission in regard to improvement in the bunkers. Mr Ritchie had also stated that, if the scheme were put into operation immediately, he would hand over his debenture to the Club. (Hear, hear). In conclusion, Mr Thomas thanked the committee for the assistance given in the past year His experience in committee work had given him an indication of the work requiring to be done. Members should be grateful to the committeemen. Thanks were also due to members for the harmonious relations that had existed, especially to their secretary (Mr W. J. CotteriU) to whom Mr Thomas referred as an ideal secretary; and to Mr W. H. Walton, for his assistance in committee work, the Club owed thanks.

Mr Thomas then formally moved the adoption of the report and balance sheet. This was seconded by Mr E. Ziesler, and carried without discussion. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: —President, Mr W. H. Walton; vice-president, Mr J. W. Fair; captain, Mr E. A. Cockroft; general committee, Messrs D. S. Kenv shed, Robert Wilson, S. G. McClelland, F. E. Duncan; hon. auditor, Mr A C. Martin. GENERAL. The chairman said that last year a good deal of criticism had been heard in regard to the order of the draw for Saturday play. The committee had decided that seniors should play off No. 1 tee, and the juniors off Port Arthur. Congestion had occurred at different tees, however. As a junior player, Mr A. O. Murdoch made the suggestion that senr iors and juniors play off No. 1 tee and Port Artnur, on alternate Saturdays. Mr F. L. Barker said that congestion was caused through various reasons, such as loitering. Such a state of affairs did not obtain on other links. Mr J. P. Steven thought it would save congestion if more use were made of The Knob. The chairman said it must be remembered that The Knob was reserved, more or less, for week-end lady players. ... After further discussion, it was decided, on the motion of Mr A. E. Horwell, that it be a recommendation to the incoming committee that consideration be given a scheme whereby | junior players would be given an opportunity of commencing play off No. 1 tee. A comprehensive vote of thanks to the following, moved by the cliainnan, was carried by acclamation: —Timaru Ladies’ Golf Club; the president (Mr W. Thomas), the vice-president (Mr E. A. Scott) for the bridge at The Chasm; Mr F. E. Duncan, retiring auditor; to the committee who undertook the work of conducting bridge evenings to raise funds; ana to the Timaru Bowling Club, for the use of

a room for meetings. To the retiring president (Mr Thomas), it was said, they owed a deep debt. He had at all times, done excellent work, and had conducted the meetings in an exemplary manner. A special vote of thanks, moved by the secretary, was passed to Mr W alton for his work in connection with securing the Government reserve adjoining the links. Opening day was fixed for March Zo.

SPECIAL MEETING. A special meeting was held after th© annual meeting to consider the following motion: —“That Club rule No. 10 bo altered by deleting the figures ‘£s 15s 6d’ in line 3, and ‘£s ss’ in line 7, and substituting the figures ‘£6 16s 6d’ and ‘£6 6s’ respectively, and that such amendments tako effect as from February 1, 1929.” After a full discussion, in which views were freely expressed, the resolution was carried.
