A mob of demonstrators stormed the Legation Quarter in Pekin late yesterday, in connection with the strike of the Legation police. The Native troops, who were temporarily on guard, were compelled to fire a volley of blanks, and the attack was successfully repulsed. The Legation police struck on February 20th for a mj’steriou6 reason. This is generally belie\ r ed to be a preliminary movement to the seizure of the Legation Quarter and the ousting of the foreign residents. The movement has been promptly nipped in the bud.

The authorities instantly installed special police troops. Yesterday’s incident has caused the redoubling of the guards.
