AUCKLAND INCREASES LEVY. B j T.Uer.rh —Pr«»» A««etUtl»“. AUCKLAND, May 2. In order to cope with increased maintenance costs, the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday decided to increase the levy on the local authorities for the coming year to .30d in the £, | as against .2od for the past year. _ This means that the authorities will pay £114,530 this year, compared with t-(1 1,647 last year, an increase of £22,883. “If we keep to the old levy, we will end up the year with an overdraft of £40,000,” said the chairman (Mr W. Wallace). “I realise there will bo a great howl from the local bodies, hut I am prepared for that. We have to make ends meet.” Apart from maintenance costs, Hie principal item of expenditure for the coming year is £40,000 for an infectious diseases block.
