MINISTER’S ' REPRESENTATIONS TO BANKS.

(Special to the ‘‘Herald.’’) CAMBRIDGE, April 30. In the course of liis address this evening, the Minister of Finance (Hon. W. Downie Stewart), said he had been closely watching the figures as to the trade balance, and the Banking returns, which in the last few months had indicated a remarkable reverse of the conditions prevailing last year. He had had various interviews with the Banks in the light of the altered conditions, and they agreed that the last- quarter’s figures were satisfactory, hut they hold the view that some further time should elapse in order to be assured of the improved Conditions becoming stabilised before anv decisive action could he taken. When the June quarterly figures were available, the Minister Sliid he proposes to discuss ; the matter further with the Banks.
