FARMERS CO-OPERATING.' AN ALL-CANTERBURY SCHEME. rp W. Barnett and Mr P R. J albot, houth Canterbury ‘ representatives of the Wheat Committee, were seen yesterday in regard to the busi- - ness done by the Committee in Christ, church last week. , They stated that they had had a yery busy time, but they had the satisfaction of knowing at the close of their labours, that Canterbury wheat-grow-ers are to be united in the Wheat Pool scheme, the Rangiora growers, who were making preliminary arrangements for a pool, having decided to join the Wheat Committee’s soheme.

The meeting of the Wheat Committee commenced last Tuesday night at half-past seven and continued until midnight. The business was resumed the following morning at 9.30, and was not completed until 4.80 p.m. A deputation was received from. Rangiora wheat-growers, when the Pool arrangements were discussed at considerable length and in great detail, the decision reached being that to be a success the proposed Wheat Pool must be supported by the great majority of the wheat-growers. _ Considerable assistance was given in ’ the negotiations by representatives of the Rural Credits Board, which i* taking an active interest-ill the Wheat Pool arrangements. The Pool is being based to » large extent on the Canadian scheme, with ; alterations to suit New Zealand conditions.

A draft of the agreement under, which wheat will be handled by the Pool was drawn up and has been submitted to the Wheat Committee’s solicitors to put into legal shape. It is intended to hold a meeting in Timaru shortly, when the scheme will be explained to South Canterbury; growers; and it is hoped to have.the agreement ready for signing before the end of May. . In the meantime, growers are advised by the Wheat Committee to have nothing to do with any offers of millers, for the sale of next season* wheat.
