During tho hearing of a case in the Commonwealth Arbitration Court. Chief Judge Detliridge said: “I am inclined to think w© are a nation of spendthrifts. AVe are going to be pulled up by a heavy reckoning very soon.” The remark was prompted by counsel referring to Australia’s unfavourable trade balance, when arguing that the progress of secondary industries in Australia was not accompanied by a decline of imports, as the result of increased activity, r ■
