EFFECT ON CHARITABLE AID. By Telecraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 29. Tho charitable aid figures show a heavy increase last month above the two previous years, both the number of cases and the amount spent in relief having moim than doubled. Mr C. U. Chapman (Labour) spoke of misrepresentation, some of which could he traced to tho Shipping Companies, and the Government, It was pointed out that the woman had paid her own passage, anil the Government could not be blamed. The question of giving the applicant assistance is to be considered.
