There has been some fog in respect! to the wheat arrangement, but it ia being gradually dispelled. The agreement is that, conditional on the prioa . of flour being raised from £l6 5s to I'l7 a ton, f.0.b.. Lyttelton, from now on to the end of December, millers will pay 6s a bushel, f.0.b., s.i. Flour is depressed by importation below that price. Wheat will easa accordingly. Four boats took to Auckland in April over 20,QU0 sacks of potatoes. Another vessel is due to leave to-day, and one! to-morrow, with additional supplies, and the result ia that the Auckland market is glutted and likely to be for some time to come. Prices to-day are clown to £3 a ton, on trucks. Up toi ’’jP £4 was paid a month ago. The long y spell of dry weather has affected- the 5,j yields. The tubers have matured .very :§ early, with consequent light yields, i and second growth has been very prevalent. At the Jockey Chib’s autumn meeting, New Zealand headed the lists of successful jockeys, trainers and owners. 1 McCarten rode four winners and four j placed horses. His winning percentage was £5lB sterling. F. D. Jones topped the trainers, securing three wins and 1 two seconds, and also a dead heat for second.
