DANGEROUS TO PUBLIC INTERESTS.
PROPRIETARY ARTICLES' ASSOCIATION. By —Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 28. Holding that the Proprietary Articles 'trade Association is a combination detrimental to efficiency in distribution, likely to unduly encourage the credit system, dangerous to the public interest, and generally retrogressive, tho majority of the Committee of inquiry appointed by the Alinister of Industries and Commerce Glon. A. D. AicLeod) recommends the Government to arrange, if necessary, lor the making of regulations to prevent the Association from operating in New Zealand. The member of the committee who dissents, contends that the public interest would not be adversely affected by the operations of the organisation, and that any Governmental attempt at suppression would be difficult to enforce, and would hamper the business of the manufacturer and trader.
The report was considered to-day by Cabinet, and was released for publication by Air McLeod. The committee consisted of Alessrs \V. B Alontgomery tcx-Controller of Customs), AV. R. Hayward (manufacturer, Dunedin). Al. J. Reardon (exworkers’ representative of the Court of Arbitration), and J. AV. Collins (secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce). Air Hayward was the dissentient.
