STREET NOISES IN WAIMATE.
To the Editor of the “Timaru Herald.”
Sir, —I would like to draw the attention of the local authorities to the above complaint. Last Saturday evening the Salvation Army had their special loud speaker on, and added to this was the incessant roar of motorbikes, topped with loud bombs, right in the main street, the explosions being simply deafening. One could expect such a thing at Christmas, but to be kept up the year round is very tryiug on one’s nerves. Tho voice of the Army man can he heard half a mile away. Why religion should be roared at the multitude, who have their own religion. I do not know. Tn any case, a gentler mode of speech would be more effective.—l am, etc., QUIETNESS.
