CHARGE AMENDED.

Stanley Albert Millar, a barmanporter, who was charged cal Monday with having committed a grossly indecent act on April in a hotel /ght-of-way, appeared before Mr E.' D. Mosley, S.M., to-day, and was remanded to appeal - next Tuesday, after the original charge had been replaced by two others. The charges against a girl in the case were withdrawn. Millar is now charged with having committed rape on a girl (name suppressed) on April 3, and further, with indecently assaulted the same j girl. Bail was refused. LUCKY DOCKET LOTTERY.

Kosle.v, S.M., tlii s morning in the case in which Reginald JJarry Stillwell, a mercer in High was charged with an offence under tho Gaming Act. Deiendant was convicted, and a nominal penalty inflicted. The Magistrate remarked that the main reason why action had been taken was to advertise tho fact that such schemes as Stillwell had promoted were illegal. The charge concerned a lottery ananged by Stillwell, ivho gave numbered dockets to customers, the prizo being a tea set.

Dismissing cnarge.s against Thomas n ctherburn, licensee of the Dominion Flo tel, of selling liquor after hours, Mr Pago, to-day expressed the opinion that if a. barman had never been requested or permitted by (he employers to sell liquor to hoarders or anybody else after hours, then the employer v as not liable to bo punished for the action of his servant.
