The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Timaru Lodgo of Oddfellows was held on Wednesday night, when Bro. AY. A. Petrie, N.G. presided over a splendid attendance. Three candidates were elected and initiated. One member from Southland produced a letter of recommendation, and was admitted to affiiliation benefits. Tt*i sick report showed improvement, but several accidents .still kept the list a heavy one. Tho corresponding scoretaiy advised that a new rule dealing with tlio disposal of valuation surpluses had been adopted. Tlio rule will allow Lodges to appropriate a much larger proportion of their surpluses than hitherto. The Lodge’s application to appropriate £I9OO from its siuplus had been approved by the district. Details of the appropriation are to be gone into at tho next quarterly meeting, the secretary in the meantime to procuro certain information in regaid to the sick and general contributions of the older members. As some misunderstanding existed as to the cllcct on tho benefits of a reduction in the amount of tlio contributions paid by a member, .it was explained that tub contributions and full benefits aie always paid, tho only difference being that soma fund has to pay the PA 1 u the contributions the member himself does not pay. Proposals from Lie Friendly Societies Guarantee Association for increased guarantees covering in secretary and treasurer were approved The official report ot the distiict meeting at Mofvon was! read, delegates supplementing the information where necessary. It was reported that the number of members oil the medic, lists for the new quarter exceeded all previous records. Not a single complaint had been received during the quarter, and not a single member had changed bis doctor.
