HOME DESTROYED

SEVIN, January 21. A fire occurred to-day by which a seven-roomed house, owned by Air John Ryder and occupied by Air Clias. Rod fern, was destroyed, with its contents.
Air Red fern with his family went to Foxtou in the morning and no one was in the house when tho fire broke out. When it was discovered, the flames had a good hold and it was impossible to save any of the contents.

A fire occurred in a house occupied by Mr A. A’enn. No water was available and ffio Brigade could do nothing. The cause of the fire is unknown. Insurances : On the house £3OO in the State Office; furniituro £2OO in tho Southern Union.
SHOPS GO UP IN FLA ALES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. TE TvUITI, January 21. Two shops occupied by Airs Gascosguc, rcstaiu'ant keeper, and A. C. Mercer, tobacconist, were almost completely destroyed by firo at 4 o’clock tins morning. A boarder sleeping in a detached building at the back of the restaurant, noticed the fire and gave tho alarm, but the fire iiad a good lio’d on the buildings, which wore old and very dry, and burnt fiercely. The upper storey of the building next door, occupied by A. AV. Dolly, confectioner, was scorched, but the efforts of tho Brigade, and the absence of wind, prevented its spread. Alcrccr’s stock was insured in the National Office for £1 25. It was a total loss. _ Airs Gascogne’s furniture and effects were insured in the State Office for £450. In addition Airs Gascogne lost £IOO in cash, which she kept on the premises. She had a narrow escape in her night attire. The buildings were reduced to a charred shell.
BOARDING HOUSE GUTTED. By Telajraph—Press Association. WAIPUKATJRAU, January 21. About 3 o’clock this morning, a reven-roomed dwelling, occupied by ALs Af. AVall and private boarders, was completely gutted. The brigade promptly on the scene, but little of the contents were saved. It is thought that the fire originated in tho dining room. It was owned bv the trustees of the estate of the late Rupuha To Hianga. Tho building was worth about £I2OO and was insured in the State Office for £BSO.
