PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT. SUFFERS. By Te!e£T»n!i —Press Association WAIROA, October 12. A disastrous lire occurred shortly before 4 o’clock this morning, resulting in the main office of tlie Public Works Department at North Clyde, being completely destroyed, together with valuable instruments and records. The firo brigade promptly turned out, but owing to the building being outside the boiougb boundary’, no water mains were available, and tho brigade was helpless. The loss to the Department, will be considerable ns records of various local works, including the WniknremoanaEast Coast Railway (Wairoa section), etc., have been lost., and will probably result in delaying the prosecution of these works.
