SAVAGE CLUB BALL. The South Canterbury Savage Club held their annual ball on Tuesday night in the Bay Pavilion, which was beautifully decorated to represent a snowstorm in a Alaori pah, the effect being most charming. In addition there were nvriads of streamers in shades of blue a lid gold suspended from the ceiling, and oeftly shaded lights. BALL AT RANGITATA. The annual benedicts’ ball at Rangitata was held in the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall, on Friday evening. Despite the inclement weather, there was a large attendance. The hall way beautifully decorated with blue and gold streamers, and a large bell was suspended from the roof in the centre ol the hall. The walls were i%steiully decoiated with greenery, cabbage trees, and spring (lowers. Mr D. G. Cam (chairman), and Mr J. J. O’ltcgan (secretary), with the help of an energetic committee, worked most assiduously to ensure a good evening’s enjoyment for all those who had accepted the. invitation to bo present that evening. Extras were played by Mrs Metcalfe, Misses K. O’Brien and D. Metcalfe,. Mr I). MeNnb, efficiently carried out the duties of M.C. Mr and Mrs J. J. O’Regan led the grand march. The Coronation Hall, Orari, presented an animated and picturesque scene on Tuesday night, on the occasion of the annual ball of the Ladies’ Hockey Club. There was a large attendance. The hall was artistically decorated with purple and gold streamers, whic-li were drawn up in the centre to form a canopy. Greenery and cabbage trees relieved the bareness of the walls, the effects being greatly enhanced b.v a string of coloured electric lights. The .stage vns tastefully decorated with greenery and spring flowers, interspersed with the club’s colours. Aliss E. Blissett. (captain), and Aliss Rita Austin (secretnry), with the help of an energetic committee, worked untiringly to make the function a success, speciarattention having been paid to preparing the fio°v. Extras were played by Alisses E. Brio it. R. Brenton. and R. ‘Blissett. Ales'srs I*. Priddle and A. Ahickie made efficient Al. C’s. Mr A. Brvant and Miss IE Austin led the grand march. During the evening, Mr A. Stead (president of the South Cnnterburv Hoekey Association) presented the competition cup, and the six-a-sido cup, won by the club during the past season, to Aliss E. Rlissett, club captain. Air Stead said the club had a Vna?* 10 - rec ' ol 'fl- Since its inception in fff2d, it had held the cup every year, and during the course of the four years had never been beaten. He also congratulated them on winning the Geraldine Sub-Association Cup, (Applause.'' All- AA 7 .
