TRANSLATING OMAR’S MANUSCRIPTS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received October 7, 8.25 p.m.) DELHI, October 7. Karachi reports indicate that widespread interest has been excited by the discovery of the Omar Khayyam manuscript. Translations have been made by a prominent Indian civil servant, and an official, aided by Sind-Persian scholar, following closely on Fitzgerald’s admirable translations of the earlier known works. Twelve quatrains, thus far translated, are typical of those in the Rubaiyat,' as may bo gauged by the following lines. “See where the grub of passiqn dies, The caterpillar heaves, its reasoning sighs, Then cedes the torch to butterflies, That view the world in splendour from experienced eyes.”
