QUARTERLY FIGURES. There is a very noticeable increase in' business transacted at the Timaru Magistrate's and Supreme Courts, this being . shown by the. returns for Hie three mouths .just, ended, .'/MAGISTRATE’S COURT. Sittings’ 'of tlic Magistrate*? Court 1 totalled 61.. Tlic total amount sued for was '£3710 7s 6d, an increase of ! £2OO on last quarter’s figures. The number of plaints issued was 180/ an increase of 46 over ’ last quarter. The number of processes served by the bailiff totalled 260, 121 being served last quarter. The total for fees paid was £397 14s 6d an increase of £llO on the previous quarter’s returns, The fines payable to the Borough Council amounted to £53 15s as opposed to; £36 10s last quarter, and. the amount payable to tlio Mam Highways. Board, for prosecutions under tho Motor Vehicles Act, was £24, as against £44 10s last quarter.

The number of chattel securities! filed was 228 as opposedl to'l7o last quarter. Probates and letters bf . administration sealed amounted to 'SB, as against 53 last quarter. The total amount paid in fees was =£ooo 13s lOd, as opposed to £243 Ids the previous session. There were 12 bankniptcy petitions filed by debtors, and tlireo last quarter, while creditor s .'petitions this quarter amounted to 2, as-against'three last quarter, there were 8 application* received'from mortgagees to -conduct sales, as against 9 for tho previous; quarter :
