SOCCERITES STRANDED

BROCKWAY TO THE. RESCUE. Last Saturday afternoon the Rangers Football Ciub set out on a journey to Oamaru. After a few delays at the starting point, all went well until about 8 miles from Glenuvv. Here their real trouble began, one of the back tyres of the conveyance blowing out. The tyre was fixed, and away went the enthusiasts for about- a- mile, when the tube in the same cover punctured badly. With no more spares, the company had to make the best of it by sending messages by ’phone, etc. Passing motorists could not assist, as their tyres were too small. The players by this time had given up the fidea of having a game at Oamaru, and indulged in a game on their own in the adjoining paddock. This second mishap occurred at 2.10 p.m. Mr Shiel, of Dunedin, who had passed earlier in the afternoon to Timaru to give demonstrations of buses, arrived on the scene again at five o’clock. He kindly gave one of the spare tubes from the bus. While the Timaru bus proprietor was fixing same, the company, by invitation of Mr Shiel, motored into Oamaru, arriving there at six o’clock. The Oamaru Rangers Committee had given up hope, the result being that no- one was there to meet the tourists. Nothing daunted, the Timaru lads proceeded ip a hotel 'md di'l justice to a good dinner. There they met Mr Jackson, one of the Rangers Committee, who invited the company to the Scottish Concert supper and dance, making arrangements for the bus to leave at 10.30 p.m. for the homeward tiip; When midnight had passed no bus had come forward, the streets'were deserted, and the prospects of" the
