Mr R. Cruickshanb has left for Christchurch to take up a position with Messrs J- Ballantyne and Co., Ltd. The Rev. W. Baumber was a passenger by yesterday’s south-going express.

Professor A. B. Fisher, of Otago University, Ireturned to Dunedin from Timaru yesterday. At yesterday’s meeting of the Timaru High School Board the resignation of Mr D. F. Kelly, of the teaching stall’ of the Boys’ School, who has accepted a similar position at Taihape, was received with regret. Mr M. F. Ledingham, at present acting as relieving teacher, was appointed to fill the. vacancy. The Marquis of Douglas and Clydesdale, eldest son of the Duke of Hamilton, and known as the boxing Marquis, accompanied by Mr Edward Eagan, an American Rhodes Scholar, winner of the. heavyweight boxing championship at the last Olympic Games, and Messrs R. apd T. Pirir; arrived in We'lington yesterday by the Tahiti from Sydney. The Marquis and his party intend to visit Mount Cook, and later to toiir the North Island.

The death of the late Mr D. Virtuo Ivas relerred to by the chairman of the Timaru High School Board, Mr J. Bitchencr, M.P., at yesterday’s mectjng of the Board. Mr Bitchencr said that the deceased gentleman had filled tho office of Tohoi Clerk of Timaru fob many years, and had gained the highest opinion of tho citizens. His death would undoubtedly prove a big loss to the town. He moved that a”vote of condolence and sympathy be passed to tlie relatives of tho deceased and tho timaru Borough Council.
