RUGBY UNION. The weekly meeting of the Management Committee was held in Mr H. H. Eraser’s office last evening. Present— Messrs H. H. Eraser (chairman), I). Hertnon, C. Clarkson, W. Watson, J. Wilson, G. Fail-brother, H. J. Washer, F. Davey, IT. S. Pearson, Father Kerley, and J. V. McKeaguo (secretary). The Star Club applied for permission to arrange practice games for their lower grade teams against another club next Saturday.—Granted. The Mackenzie Sub-Union forwarded £2 2s affiliation fee for 1926, and acknowledged receipt of £5 towards the encouragement of school football. The North Otago Sub-Union wrote suggesting 24th July as the date of the annual match with South Canterbury, and asking this Union to suggest- a date for a return match.—Agreed to; date for a return game to be advised later. Tho headmaster of the Salvation Army Boys’ Home, Temuka, applied for a football for the school.—-Granted. Tho West Coast wrote re their proposed -four, and asking for early advice of the suggested date of their match ngeinsr. South Canterbury. ’ Mr W. Diri-en reported ordering off a Zingari ■ junior player for using bad Janguago and questioning his decisions. —Held over till next Monday ’night, the player to be suspended in the meantime. Mr 0. Braeefield forwarded his resignation as the players’ representative on the Referees’ Appointment Board.—A letter of appreciation of past services was ordered to be sent to Mr Braeefield. The secretary advised that tho captains of the senior teams had appointed Mr J. Rosevcar to succeed Mr Braeefield. Mr W. T. Parat-a wired confirming tho match, South .Canterbury v. South Island Maoris, for Saturday next, and asked that accommodation be booked. The Maori team will assemble in Tima ru on Thursday. The Y.M.C.A. Club advised that'one of their players had been injured in the seven-a-sidc tournament, but the injury had only now developed. They asked that the player be placed on tho insurance fund.—Referred to Insurance Committee. It was decided that the Maori match commence at 2.45 p.m. The Schools’ Association is to be asked to play the Marist School v. West School game as a curtain-raiser to this match. Dr. W. Fea was appointed to coach the representatives, who arc to be notified to assemble! for practice at Fraser Park on Thursday night at 7.30. All players and reserves must attend. Further inquiry was held into tho referee’s comphvnt against members of the Star juniors on the occasion of their game against Point juniors.—Tt was decided that S. Cullen be severely cautioned, and that W. Currie be suspended for three playing Saturdays.

MAORI TEAM’S TOUR

SOUTH ISLAND v. SOUTH CANTERBURY.

The South Island. Maoris-will play a match against South Canterbury at Timaru on Saturday next. The following players will represent the Maori team.: — Full-back: McDonald (Marlborough). Three-quarters: T. Robinson (Canterbury), IV. Reid (Nelson), H. Phillips (Marlborough). Five-eighths: .R. Bell (captain, South’and), J. Scott (Otago). Half-back: Tc Tan (Otago). Rover: Morutc (Otago). Forwards: Stewart (Otago), McDonald (Marlborough), C. Black (Otago), Manihera (Canterbury), Manning (South Canterbury), Smith (Marlborough), R. Ellison (Otago). The team will assemble at Timaru on Thursday. The players will'be under tho charge of Mr W. Stead, a 1905 All Black. Other officials who will also ho in Timaru to discuss matters in connection with tho tour to France are: Messrs D. Ellison (Otago), W. Mihaka (Temuka), W. Barrett and G. Pitaiiia (Kaiapoi), J. A resolution which was passed recently by the Poverty Bav Ruebv Union scathingly criticising the Welsh Rugbv Union for refusing to recognise tlm New Zealand Maori team as international, and because of that refusing to accept responsibility, for any e'uh games against the Maoris, came up for discussion at the Rugby Union meeting this evening. After a statement by the chairman,, Mr Parker, that the press cable was not intended as a reflection on the Maori race, the resolution was rescinded, and ordered to he expunged from the minute book.
