Prior to the rush to the Elandsputte diamond field (cabled yesterday), mounted police swept 12 square miles of country clear. Approximately 10,000 diggers assembled seven and eight deep at the starting lines, which are one and a half miles long, clad in a variety of costumes, from running togs to Oxford bags. The great rush accompanied, by the hoarse . roar of thousands of throats and clouds of dust was witnessed by 10,000 spectators.
