POTATO PRICES SOARING. CHRISTCHURCH "WEEK-END REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, June 11. Potatoes have taken a remarkable jump in value. A fortnight ago valuea were forced down to £5 5s a ton, f.0.b., s.i., for June delivery. To-day the value is- £7 to £7 6s. Julys were sold at £7 12s 6d. July-September deliveries a fortnight ago were down to £6, today they are £8 to £8 ss, and yesterday they were £8 7s 6d. Up to £9 has been offered from Sydney for JulySeptember potatoes, but opei-ators are chary of the later months. The rebound has been extraoixlinarily pronounced. It was suggested" a fortnight ago that fanners’ abstention from offering would restore stability, and such has proved to he the case. The Sydney market still retains its healthy tone, and l all the circumstances, according to Australian produce reports, point to this condition continuing, if Sydney should happen to go slow, then there will be real cause for at break, as there will be too many potatoes for local consumption. There is little inquiry from the north, and a few operators there are offering potatoes hack. Tlio market is unchanged for grade oats. Up to 4s 3d is available for “prompt” A Gartons, f.0.b., s.i., and 4s for B.’s, this price being advanced by a penny for later mouths. Imported cocksfoot is quoted at 70s per. cwt.,'the cheapest price for years. The cause is the collapse of the Danish market. Values on trucks here are 6d to 6jd a lb.
