Census returns so far to hand show a total population of 1,227,000, the increase over the figures for 192 L census being 126,500. . “A report furnished to mo this morning by the Government Statistician,” said tlio Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. Returns which have so far come to hand show the total population of 1,227,000 for the area completed. This area in 1921 had a population of 1,100,500; the increase so far noted is therefore 126,500, equivalent to 11.5 per cent.” Air Bollard said the figures placed before him by the Statistician showed the population of Now Zealand was still moving northward.
