YEARS OF SACRIFICE.

PATHETIC STORY OF TEACHER . OF THE HEAVENS. Bv Cable —Press ■ Association—Copyright. Reuter's , Telegrams. (Received Marh 29, 7.45 p.m.) LONDON, March 29. “The Daily Chronicle” publishes the pathetic story of the sacrifices of Mr William F. Denning, made in the interests of science. ’ He is now seventy-eight, and lives alone in Bristol on a small civil list pension. He is only able to eat liquid food, owing to hardships earlier in life, when many years were spent at night in the garden, observing the stars, even when the snow was on the ground. He often spent the following day in his study checking observations. The face of the heavens became so familiar that a glance of the naked eye was sufficient to tell whether there is any alteration in larger stars. He was thus able to make the famous discovery of the new star Cygnus. Mr Dennings’s observations recently proved that temperature fifty miles above the earth is tropical.
