The Governor, addressing the Chamber of Commerce, announced that the Canton Government tvas now prepared to appoint three members to' negotiate with three Hongkong officials for a settlement of the boycott. The Governor agreed to the proposal, and hoped the negotiations would Jead to an honourable and fasting settlement. Ho lidded that it seemed sane and commonsense that-the Cantonese people were at last beating down Communism and establishing law and order. The civil war has reached ail important stage at Mukden. Generals Lin-Ching-Lin and Chang-Xsong-Chang, who only loosely acknowledge General Chang-'i'eo-Lin’s authority, having recaptured 'Tientsin from the Kouminchun forces, are now advancing along the railway to Pekin, While General Chang-Tso-l.in's cavalry are advancing tc Pekin fi «m the east, and General Wn-Pei-Eu having completely cleared the Honan provin e of Kuo-Min-Chun forces, is advancing on the capital along the Pekin-H»nkow railway. Meanwhile General Wu-Pei-l'Vs rear is threatened, owing to a Bed coup d’etat recently at Changsha. Hankow reports that troops from Changsha- are moving against Bochow, on the Hunan border, and that this is regarded ns General Wu-Pei-Eu’s head-, quarters, ns preliminary to a general Bed expedition against Hankow.
