The weather was lino and cool, and the wicket good for the resumption of the match Victoria v. New Zealand. Victoria Bats. Hope and Cunningham opened the bowling. Mayne when three, gave a chance to Lowry behind the wickets, off Cunningham, who after bowling two overs, strained himself when fielding, and had to have a good spell from bowling. The batsmen were cautious, and the scoring rate was slow. The bowling was fairly accurate, and good fielding saved many runs. Mayne reached the half century in 88 minutes. The partnership was dissolved at 91. Cosgrove, who had played an unenterprising game being caught easily at mid-on. He liad hit one boundary. Mayne was caught behind the wickets in the last over before lunch. He played some nice strokes at times, and hit two boundaries. Pie was slow between the wickets. The century appeared for 111 minutes’ play. Hendry and Atkinson added fifty in twenty-eight minutes of bright batting, Hendry being in great form, and scoring all round the field. Cunningham was bowling well, making pace off the wicket. At last Atkinson was beaten all the way by a good ball from Blunt. Dacre, Alloo and Oliver were frequently applauded for grand fielding. Mitchell was badly beaten by one ball, and bowled by the' next from Cunningham. The second centuiy was hoisted in 178 minutes.

Faster Scoring. In the first over after tea, Ransford was nicely caught in the slips. He had been at the crease half an hour, anu hit one boundary. Hendry’s century came up for 127 minutes’ batting. He gave an excellent display. Cunningham maintained good form ■ with the ball, and Dacre was repeatedly cheered for liis great cover point fielding. Hendry was opening his shoulders for splendid drives. He made his first mistake when 120, by mishitting one from Cunningham over the slip barrier. The Now Zealanders’ total was passed after 250 minutes’ batting compared with 297 minutes taken by the visitors. Hendry notched 150 in 101 minutes, the last fifty taking 34 minutes. The batsmen were getting runs everywhere, and Patrick had a problem to place his field to stop the strokes. Lansdowne was very slow, though the bowling was now losing its sting, but the fielding was still good. Patrick in stopping a hard drive by Hendry, split his finger and retired, Gillespie fielding substitute. Hendry added 100 while his partner made 21. When lie was 192, Hendry was nearly yorked by Allcott, but otherwise he really flattered the bowling. He reached his second century in 202 minutes, and 400 went up for 300 minutes’ ’play. Hendry gave a great display, and hit seventeen fours. He batted 208 minutes, and Lansdowne 89 minutes, the partnership yielding 162 runs. The attendance reached 5000, and the receipts totalled £lB7.
