Remarkable revelations of the work of an organisation known as the Vehm Society, were made in the Prussian Landtag, when a committee presented reports on its investigations. ,It was shown that twenty-eight persons, mostly officers and ensigns, were awaiting trial for participation in murders carried out under the auspices of the Vehm Society, which was constituted of a number of persons of similar views, who dictated punishments from their point of view, and these punishments were carried out by Vehm murderers. Victims were selected primarily because their presence w r as considered detrimental to the nation. The report adcis: “It w r as on these grounds that Herr Erzberger was shot. It was revealed that a Westphalian minor was murdered because ue considered it was inconsistent with his Catholic view's, that he should continue his membership of a certain League. His body w r as placed in church, in order to suggest suicide.”
