ARSENIC ON APPLES.
MERICAN GROWERS CONCERNED By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Gable Association. LONDON, December 18. Mr R. E Snowden (Tasmania), presided at a meeting of Agents-Ueneral to discuss the situation arising out of the discoveries of arsenic on American apples. Representatives of the National Fruit Federation, who attended, emphasised the danger of a public scare ansi: g out of the recent prosecutions, leading to a general boycotting ot all imported apples. Federationists stated that during many years’ experience they hud never seen a trace of arsenic in Australian apples. The Agents-General subsequently conferred, and decided to suggest to the respective Governments, though there was no cause for alarm, that Australian growers ought to be warned against , marketing apples if there were the least danger’ of the discovery c t appreciable qu,jntities of arsenic which is officially held to ho deleterious. It is understood that the affected American apples came , from districts practising dusting instead of liquid spraying.
