After an informal conference between representatives of the National Federation of Fruit Traders and the Health Officers of the Port of London, Westminster, and the medical staff of tho Ministry of Health, Dr. McFadden of the Ministry, emphatically states that tho Ministry intends to pursue the investigation at the clocks, as far as possible, and on finding even 1hundredth part of a grain of arsenic to lib. of it will continue a minute examination, and on finding 1tentli grain per lb, will probably condemn the entire cargo and not allow reexport, but order the cargo to be shipped back to the country of origin. He personally will order condemnation whenever the presence of 1-hundredth of a grain was brought to his notice. The utmost the Ministry will do is to extend its leniency for the next five weeks. Fruitgrowers must find other means of combating pests, as the Ministry is determined not to allow the use of poisonous food. The Federation at its meeting decided that it was useless to approach the Ministry further, but a subcommittee was formed to urge upon all High Commissioners and AgentsGeneral, the necessity of investigating the matter, with a view to getting'the drastic regulations modified.
