The Hon. G. M. Thomson arrived in Timaru from Dunedin yesterday.
Mr J. Bitchener, M.P. for Waitaki, returned to Tima.ru from Christchurch yesterday. Mr J. G. Johnston, 8.C0m., ot the Timaru South School, has been appointed to the position of senior commercial master on the staff of, th Invercargill Technical College. A Wellington message says that Lieu-tenant-Colonel James .Bray, bow«J secretary of the oalvation Army m New Zealand, well known and highly esteemed throughout the Dominion, vi\] retire at tho end of the year from active service, and will go to Melbourne to reside. Ho will be officially tarewelled by the Army next Sunday at AVelliimton. Colonel Bray- has the distinction of being the oldest Active male officer in the Southern - Hemisphere. Me has been responsible for many social reforms during the paste-10 years, to 15 years he has been official visitor to prisons in New Zealand;" a’ privilege accorded by the Government in recognition of the assistance he Sir John Findlay in framing the Refoimativo Institutions Act, • thereby improved prison methods were made possible. . .
