J QUEEN CARNIVAL. | A meeting of tlie executive of tho Temuka Queen Carnival was held m the Library on Tuesday evening, there being present—Mr T. E. Shiels (chairman), Mrs E. Blackmore, - Mrs T. Webb, Mr 3 T. E. Shiels, Messrs W. McCallum, "W. F. Evans, G. B. Cartwright, H. B. Strange, J. Henry, D. O’Connor, and the secretary (Mr B. Hughes). Tno chairman reported that the Sports Committee had drawn up a juvenile sports programme, comprising 24 events, including a baby show, and Highland events. The total prize money was £2O. A slight alteration was made in the baby show, after which the programme was approved. It was agreed that an appropriately decorated car be allotted to each Queen

candidate and her attendants. The following were appointed a ground committee to allot spaces for side shows and stalls:—Messrs Cartwright, Sinclair, Henry, O’Connor, Smart, Edwards, Shiels, and Evans. This committee will meet at 1 o’clock this afternoon. Mesdames Hayhurst, Cartwright, and Aspinall were appointed to judge the decorated vehicles. The coronation ceremony will be held in the Drill Hall. It was. agreed that there would be no free list so far as admission to the Domain and Hall is concerned, and that the last ballot in connection with the election of the Queen bo held precisely at 4 p.m. As a result of Tuesday’s effort, the Domain Board flag went from the bottom of the pole to the top after the votes had been counted last evening. , The Caledonian standard was relegated to second place; Fire Brigade and Milford Lagoon Association to third: and Plunket Society, W.C.T.U. and Mechanics’ Institute to last. The interest is becoming keen, and there is every indication that the struggle will be exciting and close. • EUCHRE TOURNAMENT.

In order to raise funds for tlieir representative in the Queen Carnival, the Mechanics’ Institute, W.C.T.U., and Plunket Society held a euchre tournament in the Library reading room, about fifty people taking part. At conclusion of twelve pleasant games, the winners were Mr R. Malcolm and Mrs A. Anderson; consolation prizes going to Mrs A. Webb and Mr Marsh. An excellent supper concluded a very successful evening.

SHOP DAY. That the Domain Board have organised an enthusiastic committee was evidenced on Tuesday, when a one-day shop was opened in premises kindly lent by Mr \V. G. Aspinall. The success of the effort far exceeded the promoters’ anticipations. The ladies who wore in charge were as follows : Mesdames G. B. Cartwright, A. Hayhurst, W. G. Aspinall. T. Gunnion, .1. K. Young. S. B. Wightman, Miss Taylor, and Miss Tarbottom. Therewere also a number of ladies and gentlemen who were of great assistance dining the day. and greatly contributed towards the great success of the effort. “THE CHARMER.’’ TO-NIGHT. The Paramount production. “'l’he ('banner,” starring l’ola Negri in the title role, will be screened at Temuka, to-night.
