Government’s Generous Offer. < LEAVE ON FULL PAY. Isy Cable—Press Association—Copyright, AUBiraliau ana N.Z. Cable Association. Received Dec. 16, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 16. The Ulster Government lias offered the striking constabulary two months’ leave on full pay, amounting to £3O. HOLD-UP NOT TAKEN SERIOUSLY. SPECIAL CONSTABLES AFFECTED. Bv Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association LONDON, December 15. A somewhat Gilbertinu atmosphere marked a strike of 25(X) Northern Ireland special constables as a protest, against disbandment, as a whole time uniformed force. The strikers took possession o-f five of their barracks in Belfast and locked out all intruders, while at the port dock and several stations they locked up the superior officers. Meanwhile the men’s executive sent a ultimatum to Sir James Craig demanding £2OO each, tax free, “otherwise we will retain possession of the barracks, arms and ammunition.” They refused to parley till the demand was granted, whereupon they will undertake not to go upon the dole for a year. Nobody is taking the strike seriously because the ordinary police are on duty.
