France is again nearing a political d’isis, which threatens to sweep aside the present party factions in a vast general upheaval. The slump in the lranc sent a shiver of anxiety throughout the country. . The Press is appealing to the President and Parliament to stop the rot. Such a variety of papers as ‘Le Matin,” “Echo de Paris,” “Figaro,” and “Le Temps,” all opposed to th«. Left Parties, have dropped the usual party bitterness and are fervently: appealing for the formation of "a Cabinet resembling M. Clemenccau’s of wartime,., to inspire the nation with confidence..
The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph" says that five years of illusion and the failure to face financial facts, have produced a situation which only a Government with tho country’s complete confidence can tackle, hut this is precisely what is lacking. There is no lack of confidence in M. Briand, but there is a feeling that power is really in the hands of the Left Party caucuses.
