SOUTH CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION.

The eighth annual meeting was held in the Arcade rooms. Present: —Messrs T. Thompson (chairman), J. Moore, A. Hooke (Fire Brigade), TV. Wade, TV. Mitchell, J. Thomas and J. England (Timaru), J. Campbell, and M. Stirling (St. Patrick’s), and A. Thoreau (ex-Contingenters), Tho president (Mr F. Lewis) forwarded ,an apology for absence, owing to illness. The annual report, forwarded by the president, congratulated members on the success of the year’s working. The “Herald” Shield competition had brought out 24 teams. Otipua Ladies’, Y.M.C.A., and Timaru H. tied for first pl,uce, and in the shoot-off Timaru IT team won with a creditable score, and 'a good average throughout the several shoots. Messrs Bartos and Bradshaw had tied for the individual medal, and in the shoot-off Mr Bartos won. The Association again ran a South Island championship, and it was the most successful held hero so far. Forty-one teams competed and tho winners were a, team from the Oamaru club. Tho individual prize was won by F. Ellery, of Rangitata Club. Tho aggregate prize was iron by J. E. Carr, of Methven Club. In connection with this shoot, Messrs England' Mcßae had very generously given a handsome rose bowl, open to members in the South Canterbury district. This trophy was also won by F. Ellery, of Rangitata Club. The past season championship wgs for one grade, and he thought tho committee would do well if they made the same condition for the coming season. After paying out very liberal prize money, the committee had in hand £35 16s lOd. This must be considered very satisfactory. The thanks of the Association were due to all who had in any way assisted the Association. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted: — Patrons, Messrs E. G. Kerr and F. J. Rolleston, M.P.; president, Mr F. Lewis; vice-presidents, Messrs T. Thompson’ J. Murphy; secretary, Mr A. Thoreau; assistant secretary, Mr. W. TV. TVade; emergency committee, the president, vice-presidents, and Mr. Wade; executive, delegates from affiliated clubs. The meeting agreed that the. “Herald” Shield competition be carried out on tho same lines as last year. Tho meeting agreed that all returned men and South African War veterans ho allowed to compete for tho Fraser Cup, the best score over four shoots to count. Tho mooting also agreed that tho championship be hold on Saturday, August 1, in the Drill Hall. It was decided to hold a special meeting on July 4 to .arrange details of the competition. •
