TIMAItU, JUNE 18. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) On a charge of drunkenness, a first offender was convicted and ordered to pay £6 2s, medical expenses. For driving a motor-car on the wrong side of the road, Lewis Pugh was fined 20s and costs. BREACH OF AWARD. Zaveri Bori pleaded not guilty to a charge of keeping his shop open after hours. _ Mr J. F. Arnold, Inspector of Factories, said defendant had committed a breach of the Shops and Offices Act. On Friday evening, April 29, he had visited defendant’s shop, at the corner of North and Stafford Streets. He found the premises fully lighted and the front door open. He entered and saw defendant and two gentlemen. On asking for an explanation, defendant had remarkod that the gentlemen were his friends. They were not talking business. Defendant, in the box, explained the position, stating that lie was shutting up on the Friday evening at about 8.50, when a friend came in. Thev were talking when the inspector walked in. In replv to Mr Arnold, defendant said his door was not locked against admission of the public. Defendant was fined £3 and costs. MAINTENANCE CASES. William O’Connor pleaded guilty to disobedience of a maintenance order, and also with failing to provide maintenance for his two children. On the first charge defendant was ordered to pay 5s per week towards the keep of tho children, and on the second was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended so long as defendant paid £4 and the balance of tho arrears in instalments of 10s per week. Catherine Boyle (Mr S. B. Beaufoy) proceeded against .fames Boyle for maintenance. An order was made, defendant to pav £2 5s per week. Catherine Halkett (Mr W. D. Campbell) took action against Jeremiah Flynn for disobedience of a. maintenance order. Defendant was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.! defendant to be released on payment of £l3 11s.
