At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance yesterday, it was resolved •to call the attention of the Government to the fact that the United States of America have been under -prohibition since 1919; that before the Hatioiial constitutional adoption of prohibition the Secretary for the Navy issued an order prohibiting the use of intoxicating liquor on Navy vessels; and than since tho order tne policy of the United . States Havy has been total abstinence on service; that Admiral Field, of tho British Special Service Squadron, out of courtesy to the American nation closed the canteens of the squadron while in American ports. Therefore “The meeting urges that the oovernment, as ah act of courtesy, shall close all licensed premises in', any New Zealand port during the visit of the American Fleet to such port.”
