TEMUKA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). PERSONAL. The Rev. J. R. Hervey and Mrs Hervey left Temuka yesterday for Christchurch. The Rov. A. H. Norris, of Caslunero, and formerly vicar of tlio Temuka and Winchester parish, will arrive in Tomuka to-day, and will officinto at a marriage ceremony in St. Peter’s Church to-morrow. PICTURES TO-NIGHT. ' A romantic and sad story of sacrifice is “Hearts of Oak/’ a Fox film coming to Temuka to-night. It tells of Terry Dunnivan, a man who built himself a homo by the sea, and opehed it to two orphan children, a boy and a girl. Hobart Bosworth as Terry Dunnivan, the sea-faring man, whose love, hopes and desires are entwined in this liigh-tensioned story of human hearts of the sea, has what is probably ono of the strongest roles of his career. “Hearts of-Oak” is a gripping story, and its heartaches arc written around the simple fislierfolk of a New;;England coast town. The supporting ([pictures include a Gazette and a Sunshine comedy. " ... NOTES. The South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society advertise a list of places where game licenses may be secured; The Society also asks the co-operation of sportsmen in preventing shooting taking place in the vicinity of the Temuka Domain sanctuary. The wool-classing class in connection with the Temuka Technical School will commence this evening at 7.15. The managers and Mr Harte (instructor) will bo in attendance. TEMUKA BOROUGH COUNCIL ELECTION. To the Editor of the “Timaru Herald.” Sir, —The citizens of Temuka have the opportunity to-morrow of choosing their Borough Councillors for the next two years. At the present momentintense apathy seems apparent. New blood in any public body is always to bo welcomed, and the ratepayers should not fear to cull out any of tlio old Councillors who have shown no fitness for their work. In any case liveliness in local affairs is greatly to be preferred to the dull calm of apathy. Temuka is a progressive Borough and there is no place on its Council; for members who have, no initiative making . for progress, or for more figureheads who may have plenty to say but will not work. It is to bo hoped that tlie ratepayers will show a live interest in the affairs of their Borough, at the poll to-morrow. —I a.m, etc.., “PROGRESS.” .
