FALSE PRETENCES.
WOMAN AND BABY. •By Telegraph —-Press Association. 7 AUCKLAND, June 2S. ' The exploits of a woinan' and her baby, who victimised sympathetic tradespeople and gained considerable publicity, oiving to the success.of the operations, ended ; in the Police Coupt this morning. Ivy Ellen Dias was charged with obtaining money from business firms and others in the. tpwn, amounting to £5 15s Gd. Accused pleaded guilty. Detective Hammond said accused had been married fifteen months, her husband being a labourer—apparently not too energetic. Accused went to various places and go/ money by stating that she had left her purse at hornet or that her sister was in hospital, and 1 she had to walk to Mount Albert. Mr Hunt, S.M., admitted accused to probation for - two years, on condition that , she made'restitution of the money borrowed. Ho said her husband should be brought into court to see that he made proper maintenance for his wife.
