EMPIRE TRADE.
SOCIALISTS’ POLICY DEPLORED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 5.5 p.m., June 29.) LONDON, June 27. In the House of Lords, Lord Long moved a resolution regretting the Government’s preference decision as calculated to prejudice tho unity of the Empire. Lord Arnold, in reply, said that Imperial preference was, in effect, protection accorded tho subjects of tho Empire, outside the United Kingdom, at the expense of the taxpayers of Britain. They were prepared to do great things to help them, but not by way of preference.
The motion was carried, the Government pressing the Opposition to tho division.
