McLeod, M.P., for Wat larapa, was sworn in to-day as a member of tlio Executive Council, as Minister of Lands, in succession to Hon. D. H. Guthrie, who retired fm health reasons. Mr Guthrie retains liis seat on the Executive Council as a Minister witnout portfolio. PERSONAL NOTES. The Hon. A. D. McLeod was born in the Wnirarapa in 18.2, and is the third of six sons ol the late Mi \> uliam .McLeod, who was one of -ho pioneer settlers in the Wanaiapa aistriot Mr McLeod was educated privatciv. and has lived in the Win raravin all his life, his home town beinpfMartinborough. He took up farming On his own account in 1895. and entered into politics in the following voar. becoming a member of the old 'Feather-ton Highway Board, now the Featherslon County Council. He was for some years chairman of the Council. On the inception of the Wai rarapa Hospital Board he was elected a member of that body, and also for some eight years represented the Wairnrnpn district on the ’Wellington Harbour Board. Mr McLeod has a!-o taken a very keen and active interest in all farmers’ organisations of the dis !rirt. he-ides being associated with all forms of sport.
