There was a very large gathering, one of the largest and most successful ever held, in the district —over 100 couples being, present. It was . an ideal evening and visitors came from as far as Timaru. The music was supplied by the A.B.C. band, which was much appreciated, extras being played by Airs Henrickson, Aliss Cook, Miss Dossett and Mr E. AVolff. Mr Sullivan officiated as M.C. Dancing was kept going briskly until the early hours of the morning; everyone thouglily enjoying themselves. Air Glennie, on behalf of the residents,, thanked the bachelors for the very pleasant time they had given them. Air. Randall Blackler, on behalf of the bachelors, suitably replied. Oil Friday evening last, a gathering was held in the Presbyterian Sunday School hall, Pleasant Point, in honour of Aliss A T iolet Saunders, who had acted as church organist for the past eight years. A sacred musical pro- ] gramme was rendered, and Sister Ada Saunders, lately returned from the Solomon Islands, also sang a solo. The chairman, Rev. G. D. Falconer then spoke of the lengtlrv and valuable service rendered by Aliss Saunders. Aliss Saunders was then presented with a beautifullv bound Bagstcr Bible and Church Praise, bearing her name in gilt lettering; an embossed leather hag in which to carry them; and a goldinounted fountain pen, both initialled. Miss Saunders returned thanks. A delicious supper was then served.

BALL AT GERALDINE. j The Geraldine Fire Brigade held i their annual ball in the Drill .Hall, j Geraidme, on 'Thursday night, j weather was tine, and all parts ol tho , district were well, represented, there being over 100 couples present. The hall was prettilv decorated with streamers and greenery, and the floor was m perfect order for dancing. Shortly after supper Capt. J.
