GOVERNMENT SUFFERS FURTHER DEFEAT. IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. By Cubit—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, June 24. The Government suffered another defeat in the House ol Commons by a vote of 315 to 175 in consequence ol an Opposition and Liberal combination in favour of a motion to refet the housing and linancial provisions in a Dill to a committee of the whole House, instead of to a special committee. It was sought to impose the defeat, however, as one on procedure and not principle, and no political significance is therefore attached to it, and other business proceeded. Prior to this incident, the Bill which embodies the financial resolutions, had already passed its second rending after an Opposition motion for rejection had been defeated by 269 to 205. The Opposition argued that it was unsound in theory and practice, and in finance thoroughly bad. Tlio Liberals also expressed some discontent, and it was Mr Mnsternum's motion which ultimately resulted in the Government’s discomfiture.
