COLERIDGE POWER.
A SECOND TRANSMISSION LINE. TO BE ERECTED FOR TIMARU. With a view to remedying the frequent breaks in the supply of electrio current on the line between Lake Coleridge and Timaru, tho Public Works Department has now definitely decided to erect a second transmission line between Lake Coleridge Power Station and Timaru. The new transmission line will he of superior construction to the existing line and, in addition, it will have a higher voltage capacity. Tho Depart-: ment has been carrying out experiments with the suspension type oi insulator, and the results have been of such a character that it has been decided to install this type of insulator on the new line. The material for the new line is to be ordered straight away and the work of erecting the line will be put in hand as soon as possible. Although the route ivas not been yet definitely decided up m it is understood that it will not un parallel all the way with tne present line. It may cross the Rangitata l iver where the .existing line crosses, or mav cross higher up-stream at the Arundel bridge. Tho second transmission line, when erected, will, it is believed, remove many of tho causes for complaint made recently regarding the unreliability of the supply of power from Coleridge to Timaru: it should, at least, reduce the possibility of power interruptions. The new line is being constructed to carry a higher voltage than the present one, as, in all probability it will form a part of t..c transmission system when the Coleridge Power Station is linked up with the Waipori Power Station..
