DIRECTORS’ REPORT. The following report of the directors will be submitted at the animal meain„ of the South Canterbury Caledonian Society, to be held to-monow m fhe' statement as set out in the balance sheet shows a credit balance e| £415 5s od as against £dlo 9s lOd last veixf. The profit: and Ips.s statement shows a net profit for the year ot £IOB ISs Id. This, after paying £ll7 9s 2d for repairs and top-dressnig the track, is very satisfactory, and leaves the Society in an excellent position from a financial standpoint, ino annual gathering at New Year was an, unqualified success, the attendance both da vs being well up to former years. The directors thought it advisable to reduce the charge of admission from one shilling and sixpence to one shilling, but the returns dul not <r o up accordingly. The gate takings show a decrease to £241 over last yeiu a fi'mres. The sports themselves were excellent, and as usual were well eon ducted. The best thanks of the directors go out to those officials who helped to make the gathering such a success. Hie trades people of the town agam responded very generously to the So ciety’s request for assistance, contributing ”.£O7 9s, and deserve the thanks ol the Society for their grefit Help. Special prizes were donated by Messrs W. Hall, S. R. Burns. W. E. Kinnorney, Timaru Scottish Society, Licensed Victuallers' Association, S.C. Centro N.Z. Pipers’ and Dancers’ Association. During the year the Society lost by death two of “its oldest members—Mr Wm. Priest, who had been one of the officials at the sports up to the time ol his demise, also a past president ini two years, and a director for a great many years; and Air David . Stuart, who was one of the founders of the Society and held office as secretary I’m three years in 1877-78-79. Both these gentlemen took a keen interest in tho welfare of the Society. The following directors retire, and are eligible for reelection, except Mr G. Dawson, who does not seek re-election:—S. R. Burns. P. Campbell, G. Dawson, 1). Donaldson, C. Hall, V. Hall, M. Houlihan, J. P. Murphy, R. A. Rodgers, R. Watson.
