SOCIAL EVENING

The first of the series of social evenings arranged 'for the winter months, was held at the school on Saturday evening, there being about 150 people present. The committee had spared no effort to make the function a success, and all present expressed satisfaction with the arrangements.

Dancing was indulged in in the large room, the music being supplied by the Morgan-de Lautour orchestra, assisted by Mr IV. Taylor (cornet). Mr F. Earl carried out the duties of M.C. very efficiently.

During intervals exhibitions of National dancing wore given by Miss Itaukin (Highland fling), Master _ N. Douglas (sailors’ hornpipe), Misses Mavis Burgoyne, Nancy Drew, Connie Potts, and Mabel Sinclair (Irish reel). Miss Mavis Burgoyne (Irish jig), and Misses Mabel Sinclair and M. Burgoyne (Irish hornpipe) ; Mr R. Young supplying pipe music for the juvenilo performers. These items were much appreciated. Miss liastie contributed a song very nicely. The card room was controlled by Messrs J. Phillips and A. F. Strutbers, and the competitions were won by Mrs Mclntosh and Mr S. Houston. The prizes were presented in the danco room by the chairman of the committee, the winners being accorded a round of applause. The supper room-arrangements were tarried out by Miss Fyfe, Mesdamcs Brewer, Harper, and Gibb, Misses R. Gliddou and T. Irwin and several senior girls of the school, and left nothing to be desired. The secretary of the Social CommitIce (Mr J. A. Hay), had the whole of the arrangements thoroughlv in hand and everything worked smoothly. The chairman returned thanks to lho patrons, and performers, and all who bad in any way assisted, and the evening was concluded by all singing “AuM Lang Svne.”

The nexl evening will be held on ■July 19th.
