CRICKET.
AFTER THE FIRST TEST. PARKIN’S SCATHING' COMMENT. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. (Received 12.40 a.m., June 23.) LONDON, June 22. Parkin, in his weekly article in the newspaper “Dispatch,” caused a sensation in cricket circles by his strong comment upon Gilligan’s failure to use him on the last morning of the South African test match. He says: While Gilligan made many changes in the bowling, he was standing at mid-off wondering why he was overlooked, and how he had got top bowling averages this season. He never felt so'humiliated in liis whole cricket career. Parkin adds: 1 can take the rough with the smooth with anybody, but not stand being treated as on Tuesday. I should not be fair to myself il 3 accepted an invitation to play in any further test; not that I expect to receive an invitation.
Gilligan declined the “Dispatch’s” request, to discuss the matter, saying “Parkin is entitled to his comments. 1 to mine. That’s all I am going to say.”
