Mr' James Macdonald left Timaru on Saturday for Christchurch. Mr Isaac Andrew was • a passengei bv* Saturday’s express from Christ--church. Mr G. FI. Holford, B.Ag., passed through Timaru on Saturday by the express for Dunedin. ATr Frank Milner, rector of Waitaki Boys’ High School, was a passenger by-Saturday’s south-going express. Mr P. G. Allen was judge of garden produce and potatoes at the Ashburton show last week.
Mr Hope Gibbons (chairman of directors ot the Colonial Motor Company) arrived in Timaru on Saturday evening, by car from Dunedin. A cable message from London reports that Miss Stella Murray, the New Zealand eontrallo, gave a successful recital. The criticisms were' most favourable.
Miss Gwitha Shaud, the New Zealand swimmer, trained for the first time in Paris on Saturday. Miss Shaud appeared to be out of condition, but i~ confident she can regain form. At its meeting on Friday last, the Canterbury Board of Education, passed a motion of sympathy with Mr J. G. Cow, by reason of the death of Ins brother Mr G. IV. Armitage said that- the late Dr. Cow was best known to them as the superintendent of Sunuyside Mental Hospital, where fie had earned a Dominion-wide reputation. His great skill end tender care were always devoted towards the wellbeing of his patients.
Mr J- TV. Irwin tendered his resignation as assistant master in the se.--ondarv department of Normal School, Christchurch, at Friday’s meeting of the Education Board. The resignation was accepted with regret. Mr Irwin was congratulated on his well-merited promotion to the position of inspector, and the Board expressed appreciation of the valuable service he had rendered, as a teacher in the Canterbury district and more particularly in connection with his work in ihc secondary department of Norma! School.
