Tho best scores were.--Miss Bremner S 7 (23) 64; Mrs Sheen 112 (27) So: Mrs Smart 116 (30) 86 BOXING BOUTS TO-NIGHT. This evening in Mr J. Watson's granary (at the rear of the shop), the Temuka Boxing Club, in view of the mid-Canterbury championships, will stage a number of try-outs. There will be eight bouts in all, commencing at 8 o’clock sharp, and everyone is invited to be present. In order to encourage the lads it is hoped that the building will be full. There will be no charge for admission. POSTAL OFFICIAL HONOURED. In the commercial room of the Crown Hotel on Saturday a public testimonial was tendered to Mr T. O Dykes, chief clerk, who has been promoted to tho Port Chalmers Post Office. Tho Mayor occupied the chair, and in presenting the departing official with a handsome set of military hair brushes with case, said ho was a most courteous and painstaking officer, ever zealous in his duties anu was ever willing to oblige. Mr Dykes had also taken an interest in the sports clubs, and his departure would he keenly regretted. Mr A. E. Smith (Business Men), Mr A. Beaton (Sports Bodies). Mr W. H. Staniland 'Country Residents), and Air H. Wilson (Post Office Staff), also spoke in flattering terms of Mr Dylies’ service to tho town arid wished him every success in Port Chalmers.

Mr Dykes, in reply, said that he did not deserve all that had been said. He had only tried to do his duty, and it was gratifying to know that his work had been appreciated. 'Temuka was a fine town Imt its people_ were much finer, and it was with feelings of deep regret that he was leaving. He hoped at some future date to renew, the acquaintance of anyone from this town. In conclusion he could only thank them for the handsome gift and wish them ■‘Kai Ora.’’

On Friday evening Mr Dykes was the recipient of a handsome wallet and cigarette holder (with silver case) from his fellow workers in the Temuka Post Office. Mi- W. Gibbs, Postmaster, made the presentation, and the Mayor and Mr H. Wilson (Telephone Exchange) also referred to the good qualities of Mr Dykes and trusted that he would find things as pleasant at Port Chalmers Post Office as they had been in Temuka.

Mr Harrison, of the Port Chalmers Post, Office staff, who is to replace Mr T. O. Dykes at Urn Toinuku Post Office, v, ill arrive in Temuka to-day.
