PICTURES TO-NIGHT,
“VENUS OF THE SOUTH SEAS.’-
Tho New Zealand picture, “Venus of the South Seas,” will be seen at Temuka to-night. Annette Kellerman, famous as a swimmer, will bo seen in the leading role. Some wonderful water scenes will be shown. It is interesting to note that the localities where the photoplay was taken include Tekapo, .Pelorous Sound, Wellington, and Christchurch. Included in: the programme is a golf special- by, Gene barazen, an indiihtriaij -and-' • a good gazette.
ODDFELLOWS’ BALLOn Thursday evening the Alexandrovna, I.O:O.F. Lodge .held th3ir annual ball in the' 33rill Hall, which was beautifully decorated'for ’-'the ce-‘ casion. There was a fairly large 11tendance, including visitors from limaru and other parts of the district. The grand march, which was led oft by Bro. J. K. Young, V.G. of Alexandrovna Lodge and' Sister Frisby, N.G. of the Waitea Rebekah Lodge, was headed by piper Harrison, of the Alexandrovna Lodge. Excellent music was provided by Mr Simes’ Orchestra. Extras were played by Miss M. Colville, Miss I. McCallum, and Miss Davidson. Mr W. Gaby made a very courteous M.C. NOTES. The Waihi Football Club will hold a grand ball in the Victoria Hall, Winchester. on Wednesday evening next. Residents of Temuka and Geraldine disti-icts will receive with their “Herald” this morning a circular from Mr J. Davis, Tailor, Temuka. A perusal of the circular will repay those who require a really well tailored suit. A concert and dance will be held, under the auspices of the Milford Ladies’ Hockey Club, in the Milford Hall, on Friday, July 4th. On Wednesday evening the Maori Sports Club held a social in the Maori Hall, the attendance being very much larger than usual. Music for ihe dances was provided by Mr S. Torepe, extras being played by Miss M. Tlopkinson and Miss Newman. During -.ho evening songs were given by Messrs T. Rickus, W. Rickus, W. Taipana, and T. Anglem. Miss Newman also contributed a piano solo. Mr K. Reliu carried out the duties of M.C. The staff of G. H. Clements, Draper, assembled after closing time to make a presentation to Miss M. Errwood cn the eve of her marriage. Mr Clements, in presenting Miss Errwood with a large parcel of household linen, refer red in flattering terms to her eight years service and wished her every happiness in the future. Miss Errwoo happiness in the future. Miss Errwood suitably responded.
